Third workshop Criticality on networks and socio-economic systems

Workshop Satellite of the Conference on Complex Systems 2024. Exeter, England. 2 - 6 September, 2024

Scope

The success of statistical mechanics in describing diverse systems, rooted in microscopic interactions, extends beyond physics to realms like biology, sociology, and economics.

One intriguing outcome is the absence of characteristic scales during certain order-disorder transitions. Critical phenomena, a subfield of physics, explores such phenomena and universal patterns. Yet, signs of criticality emerge across various disciplines. This satellite workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on criticality's broad occurrence. By exploring diverse systems and scenarios, the workshop seeks to define criticality and identify its manifestations. The workshop aims to establish common ground on criticality’s signatures by merging different perspectives. Topics encompass any phenomenon displaying signs of criticality or lacking characteristic scales, whether in theory or observation. The goal is to advance our understanding of criticality across disciplines and foster collaboration in deciphering its complexities.
